Gossip Girl is back and it is Award season so that made me think of this very sexy dress that Blake Lively wore to The Emmys in 2009. She was already making her name as a bona fida fashionista but this dress really put her on the map. The Versace dress has a navel plunging neckline but Blake has just enough demure to pull it off. Rihanna wore something very similar in black at The Grammy’s on Sunday and trust me it is a style that never gets old.
On the subject of the prom dress here is a lovely Victor Costa one that Danni Minogue wore to the National Television Awards in 2010. The dress is vintage and made from cream silk and black velvet. Danni calls it the Bumblebee dress. I love the fact that she teamed it up with bright red shoes.
It is 2004 and life is pretty good for Jennifer Aniston, she is still in Friends and married to Brad Pitt. To top it off she has a pretty good movie career going and is attending the UK premiere of rom com, Along Came Polly in which she co-stars with Ben Stiiler. Along Came Polly is a pretty cute movie but Jennifer’s outfit is amazing. A bright red, Valentino prom dress with a full skirt. I have no idea who styled her but they must have been a visionary because a few years later everyone was in a prom dress. Well Friends came to an end as did Jennifer’s fairytale marriage to Brad but I am sure she still has that dress and I just love looking at it.
I had a few days off work this week so spent it watching lots of stuff that I have SKY Plused. One of them was a list of Jay Z videos and the one video that stood out was Roc Boys (And the Winners Is) which is on his tenth album, American Gangster. It is shot at the 40/40 Club in New York which is actually owned by Jay Z. The story is about the tale of a young Jay Z and how he rises through the ranks to become the player he is now. Roc Boys has an amazing sound but the video oozes gravitas and swagger. It also features celebrities such as P Diddy (who produced the song) Mariah Carey, Nas, Rick Ross, Tristan Wilds (Dixon from 90210), Yaya Dacosta, Terrance J, The Dream, Irv Gotti, DJ Clue, Beanie Sigel, Cassie, Swizz Beatz and Memphis Bleak. Talk about a line up. Only Jay Z could command such an audience.
This picture was taken back in 1993 when Kate Moss first came onto the scene. It is taken at a party for Elite Models at the Hilton in London. I just love the simplicity of the dress; it is sexy but in a very subtle way. It shows off Kate’s gamine body but at the same time covers up her intimate bits. A real lesson to the wannabe sexy ladies out there that often less is more. Mind you only Kate could have pulled off a dress like that. The dress was designed by a designer called Liza Bruce. This is a true fashion moment.
Gossip Girl may not be as great as it was during its 1st and 2nd series and the storylines may get more ridiculous by the week but one thing you cannot fault is the fashion. It is spectacular. As more outlandish the script gets the more wonderful the clothes are and in fact that is my only reason for watching. Blair and fake cousin Izzy have been sporting some beautiful frocks and just in case you were wondering where the outfits are from there is a website which lists all of the outfits and the designer. Gossip Girl Fashion tells you where every dress, piece of jewellery and pair of shoes are sourced from.
Olivia Palermo is known for her immaculate style. The former star of The City is forever in the fashion mags and being fawned over by bloggers who adore her gorgeous wardrobe. Olivia joined the blogging posse a few months ago by launching her own blog which shows her many adventures in NYC and abroad. She donned this adorable Armani pant suit at the launch of Armani Hotels. I love it because it epitomises American glamour as well as the unique style of European fashion. Very Olivia P.
Like everyone else I also watched the Royal Wedding and read acres and acres of the press coverage. But it was this image of the Royal couple that stood out to me. Their first Vanity Fair which marked their first North American visit. It rocked! I just love the simplicity of the image plus I really like the way they have cut out Prince William’s comb over which makes him look really young.
I have always wanted this picture on my wall, never quite got there but hey it is on my tumblr.
For those of you who don’t know, this is athletes, Tommy Smith and John Carlos making a stance at the 68 Olympics over the treatment of African Americans. This movement made headlines and had become an iconic image.
